There are 1.4 billion people who are living in extreme poverty right now. I have no idea what that is like but after 11 – 15 June this year I am likely to have a slightly better idea. For five days I will be living on £1 for food and drink, as part of the Live Below the Line campaign, to raise awareness about the issues of extreme poverty and raise funds to help the world’s poorest. What I love about this campaign is the way in which it forces individuals to engage with the hardships faced by those living in poorer countries. Due to exams I am unable to participate during the official dates. However, I am rallying a group of friends to ‘live below the line’ with me in June and together we will face the challenge, host a ‘Dine Below the Line‘ dinner, raise funds and do our bit to support those who really need it.
If you would like to take part in, what could very well be, a life-changing experience, you can sign up on behalf of any of these charities. Go one, take the challenge for five days and experience what it would be like to live on the poverty line. But, if you simply can’t entertain the thought of rice and beans for five days then you can always sponsor me! The more we understand the realities of poverty, the more we are likely to be propelled by our compassion to genuinely change the world.
