Below the Line 2014 Day Two & Three

dine_below_nostalgicThe last couple of days have been reflective of any other day ‘below the line’. One meal tastes much the same as the next, you think about food a lot and the restrictions of a £1 budget mean limited socialising.

Despite feeling just a little bit ‘bleugh’, a Dine Below the Line dinner with my fellow SMEM teammates last night was just the tonic to keep persevering to the end of the week. I was so encouraged by everyone’s desire to make a difference, even a small one, in the area of extreme poverty. What a privilege to be surrounded by people who value other human beings enough to be a bit uncomfortable for a week, in order to make a statement about the injustice of hunger. Our friends Helen and Alex celebrate their wedding anniversary today and Helen’s birthday tomorrow, all while living on £1/day. What champs!

It really doesn’t matter that I’m starting to get a bit bored of split peas and porridge. In perspective, my limited five-day menu is so insignificant I almost feel embarrassed talking about it so much. What truly matters is raising awareness about the 1.2 billion people who live like this all day, everyday.

A huge thank you to all who have already supported me to raise funds for The Mike Campbell Foundation. You are heroes. If you would still like to do so, it will make a massive difference to the displaced farm workers in Zimbabwe who the organisation support. Start changing the world here!
